    Same principle applies to any sold on debt. Not just student loans.

    There had been some cases where the ICO had advised people that it was OK for a debt buyer/collector who purchases a debt and cannot agree payments with the debtor, to add another brand new default for another 6 years once the original had dropped off.

    Has now been cleared up there that this very worrying advice from the ICO was incorrect.
