  • Bogus claims to be thrown out as government steps up insurance fraud crackdown – Pres

The price of an average motor insurance premium has seen a record fall of more than £100 over the past year, according to the latest AA statistics. Government reforms to tackle the growth of compensation culture and help hardworking people have made a major contribution to this fall. The government has now pledged to do […]

It really does make me laugh when I see headlines like this. It was the Tories who set off the Litigation Culture, Labour who did nothing to curb or reverse it and now the coalition is trying to act hard by claiming they're cracking down on it. Was it not the insurance industry who kept quiet about passing policyholders' details to these claims management companies and law firms until someone blew the whistle on them?

And as for the fiasco of the Motor Insurers' Database, this should be abolished or the police stopped from using it. The police, themselves, admit they have found the MID to be inaccurate, resulting in them wrongly, correction, unlawfully seizing innocent motorists' vehicles, causing unnecessary inconvenience and expense to those motorists affected. In some cases, innocent motorists have suffered the destruction of their vehicles due to bungling by insurance companies who then try and fob them off with offers equivalent to 10% of the value of the vehicle, as happened in one case.

There needs to be a massive crackdown on the insurance industry as well as claims management companies, repairers and those who feed off it. Then and only then will we see insurance premiums genuinely fall to a level where allegedly uninsured vehicles will be an exception to the rule, rather than the high levels we are being lead to believe.

Another scam, sham that has gone on fer years and once more has only been thought of as something worth mentioning before an election.
Insurance as you say is a massive industry, as with all the other joys of life that we 'need' it is also full of corruption and deception and possibly only comes to light when we need to claim on said insurance and expect the help we have paid for.
Yes another very needy industry that has used and abused us that needs sorting to sum tune and imho if they can not get a scam claim sorted then they should not be selling insurance simples.

...... and if people did not accept it was acceptable to defraud insurance companies with false or falsely inflated claims ,,,,,,.

Unfortunately it seems to be acceptable now a days to allow oneself to make such claims.
If that acceptance ceased the encouragement to do it would also cease.

It is just another aspect of present acceptance that fiddling the books, tax, benefits, expenses or whatever is okay

More like the insurance industry finding out what karma really is. You do wrong to someone and it comes back on you.

Too many back handers in the industry, you scratch my back and all that.
First thing in an accident call your insurance, second they call a CMC then the ball is rolling. Even on tv a CMC and an insurance co rep said they did not even see the person involved, all done on paper, you only need a bent medical expert and jobs done. Seen it first hand with my dad, one of the easiest and best money making scams next to PPI

Agree with what you say, but it would not work without people accepting it.
It needs a compliant claimant, plus people further up the chain who think it is ok to be dishonest
It is symptomatic of many in today's society, from top to bottom.

I fully agree but who are the ones to make this happen?
It wont be the regulators as we have seen on most respects they are useless till it has gone so far they have to intervene.
I think it has to be the consumer who with social media etc has a voice and an opinion that can be heard and appreciated.
So much of our lives is sold to us by way of ease and convenience and it is something in busy times we have to accept, what we must not accept is the rip off culture that seems to come along side the need for convenience.

Not actually doing, you notice. What's the betting that after the election, this is another promise that will quietly go down the memory hole?
