      Back in the 70's, when I arranged insurance for a number of banks, security was abysmal.
      One bank (no longer in existence) had a branch in Birmingham which held upto £5m, of which only £50,000 was allowed out of the locked vault at any one time.
      Talking to the manager one day he told me that every Friday to conduct their audit after closing time, with the doors locked they emptied the vault and piled the cash on a table in the banking hall.
      Due to the fire regulations there was an unlocked fire door on to the roof.
      I was briefly tempted to visit Birmingham the next Friday with tooled up friends, but actually advised him on how to carry out the audit without breaching the terms of the insurance policy.
