  • Tesco credit computer glitch.

I guess I must have been in the first batch of many today to receive a letter from Tesco bank demanding I pay my outstanding credit card bill and a £40 fixed penalty or they are going to take me to court. This came as a bit of a shock as we paid this card off two years ago and cancelled it last year. So I phoned them on the 0898 number and went streight through to their fraud department where I was left waiting, listening to crap music for 20 minutes before a member of staff answered me. I told her my concerns and was told that one of their computers had gone wrong and was sending out thousands of letters to customers of closed accounts, demanding money and threatening court action. I got no apology, I was just told to throw it away. So watch out anybody who has in the past held a Tesco credit card, one of these letters might be landing on your door mat very soon.

    Best wishes,
    Liam.

Keeping you on hold for 20 minutes on what appears to be a premium-rate number is unacceptable. See how much it has cost you when your telephone bill arrives. It could be anything between £2.00 and £33.00. You can make a complaint to PhonePayPlus, the premium rate number regulator, if Tesco won't play ball with a refund. PhonePayPlus's website is at www.phonepayplus.org.uk.
