Why stop at stripping him of his knighthood? Haul Goodwin and the other bank directors whoo messed up before the High Court and ban them from the boardroom for the full 15 years.

As Bluebottle says, don't just stop at him, we need to strip everyone of them that has been given an award, whilst we're at it lets also get the politicians who effectively 'fiddled while Rome (the banks) burned.

        I agree BB and Sapph.
Copied from my post in another Fred Thread:-

        Ed Miliband:
"It is right that Fred Goodwin lost his knighthood but I think it is only the start of the change we need in our boardrooms.

"We need to change the bonus culture and we need real responsibility right across the board."
        Hear, hear, Ed.

        Nick Robinson:
Plenty may be wondering whether the committee will now start working through every banker with a knighthood who has since faced criticism for decisions they took in the past.
...and is that a problem ? It's fine by me !!!

This action is obviously intended to placate the masses....I don't think it goes far enough. Fred and his cronies should be the subject of a criminal investigation.

"Although scalar fields are Lorentz scalars, they may transform nontrivially under other symmetries, such as flavour or isospin. For example, the pion is invariant under the restricted Lorentz group, but is an isospin triplet (meaning it transforms like a three component vector under the SU(2) isospin symmetry). Furthermore, it picks up a negative phase under parity inversion, so it transforms nontrivially under the full Lorentz group; such particles are called pseudoscalar rather than scalar. Most mesons are pseudoscalar particles." (finally explained to a captivated Celestine by Professor Brian Cox on Wednesday 27th June 2012 )

Re: Fred Goodwin Stripped Of Knighthood!

Disqualifying bank directors from acting as company directors for the full 15 years currently provided under Company Law should be the start of a root-and-branch reform of Company Law and boardroom culture.

TSOs (Trading Standards Officers) should be given the power to apply to a judge for an interim banning order of a minimum 28 days with the option to go back and seek extensions as required. Also, the requirement to seek disqualification orders from the High Court should be repealed and delegated to the County Courts.

Company directors and their cronies in the CBI and IoD are very quick to lobby the politicians for employment protection legislation to be watered-down and make it easier to sack their workers. It's time for a level playing field on BOTH sides. Words like "sauce", "goose" and "gander" come to mind.

                One notes the whinging, Darling!

BBC News - Fred Goodwin knighthood criticised

Not surprised by Darling who was in on it. Along with Brown, Balls, Myners and the weasel who left the note...

They should be locked up along with HS at the FSA.

                  Hear, hear, Michael Fallon:
"This was the biggest bank, [Mr Goodwin] was the dominant player in it and I think the public rightly feel [he] got away scot-free at the time... We've had this persistent demand from the public as to why this man should be allowed to retain an honour he was given for services to banking."
Not only did he bring RBS to its knees, forcing us - the idiots gathering on the village green - to pay for his arrogance, but he did banking a further disservice by his conduct thereafter. Perhaps his earlier failing could be considered as an error of judgement, but his later conduct was not just dishonourable, but despicable IMO.

I was listening to the Nick Ferrari show on LBC this morning, he's still got his (extremely large) pension though, now from the telephone calls on the show and the general discussion I reckon if they removed the pension the general public will be more impressed, plus there were calls demanding that all the offending bankers repay their bonuses and lose their pensions.
General concensus of opinion is that any business that isn't profitable and/or has been bailed out then no one should get a bonus until the business is back in the Black.

Re: Fred Goodwin Stripped Of Knighthood!

Having had to deal with scumbag company directors who rip off consumers and employees, in the police force, what WOULD hurt them more than anything else is -

                      1. Disqualification from acting as a company director for the maximum 15 years.
                      2. A ban on them setting up in business as a sole director (something any disqualified director can do at present, which is crazy).
                      3. Forfeiture of occupational pension in total.

There also needs to be a change in the disqualification period for company directors from 15 years to indefinite or life, if a judge deems it appropriate, after taking into consideration the reason for the director being before them and the likelihood of them re-offending.

Anyone feel this is too tough, or not tough enough?

Bluebottle I think thats more than fair, as a small business owner and obviously a Company Director, I always feel responsible for my staff etc, but its amazing how many people start up a Limited Company, run up debts, close down and start up again and so on, I know that sometimes companies do go to the wall and its unavoidable and thats a crying shame, but there are those out there who do it again and again and they are the people who need disqualifying for life.
                        Disgusting.

Just put them all in a boat, send them to the middle of the ocean and leave them. We were never fooled by the pathetic attempt at justifying their bonuses by saying they were the creme de la creme of banking and finance. They're plain greedy opportunists who call the shots to government and they don't possess an iota of integrity. I would refuse to call any of them sir, they've made a mess of the economy. I wouldn't let them run a sweet shop don't mind say a bank and they make Delboy look like an honest businessman.

I used to go to 'Sunday School' as a kid, and they used to issue us with written Bible texts on scraps of paper. For some reason, I always remembered "What would it profit a man, if he should gain the whole world, and lose his own soul ?"

Your post above, ShadowCat, will be similarly kept in my pocket for the years ahead. So true.
