Redknapp tax charge: Spurs boss faces January trial for 'cheating public revenue'

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is to face a two-week trial in January on charges of tax evasion.
Redknapp, 64, will appear at Southwark Crown Court alongside co-defendant Milan Mandaric, the 73-year-old who is currently Sheffield Wednesday chairman. The trial is expected to start on January 23.

In the dock: Redknapp's trial on charges of tax evasion starts in January next year

Both men face two charges relating to payments of $145,000 and $150,000 alleged to have been made by Mandaric to Redknapp when they were chairman and manager respectively at Portsmouth.
The money is alleged to have been paid into a Monaco bank account opened by Redknapp. Both men are accused of concealing the payments from the taxman in order to evade the payment of income tax and National Insurance contributions due on the two amounts.
The first offence is alleged to have taken place between April 2002 and November 2007, the second between May 2004 and November 2007. Both men have denied any wrongdoing.
The day before the trial starts, Tottenham are due to play Premier League leaders Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, and during the expected two weeks the case will last, Spurs face Wigan at White Hart Lane and Liverpool away.

Take a break: Exertions of life on the touchline have taken their toll on Redknapp

Although Redknapp need not miss the games, he would expect to be in court during the week, meaning training sessions would have to be taken by his assistants, Joe ****** and Kevin Bond.
Spurs are enjoying their best period for 25 years under Redknapp, having qualified for the Champions League in 2010 and challenging strongly again at the top of the Premier League table this season.
Redknapp's success at Spurs has led him to become favourite to take over from Fabio Capello as England manager next summer. FA chairman David Bernstein says the search for a new manager will not begin until after the European Championship next July.
Redknapp has missed Tottenham's last two matches after undergoing minor heart surgery and will remain away from the club until he is fit to return.

Standing in: Joe ****** (right) , Kevin Bond (second right) and Clive Allen (second left) have taken the reins in Harry's absence

If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of payments.

Do I have to own up and admit that I thought he was a good manager whilst at Dean Court?

Left with a £100,000 golden handshake as I recall--not sure if that was before or after tax though:rolleyes2:

Used to chat very briefly with him when he watched Sunday youth football locally-always friendly ans approachable.

A great manager maybe, but that is not a reason to cheat the public purse.

And yes he did very well for pompey too, but we all have to pay our taxes and what he has done has ended him having to pay more as the rate at the time was 40% now it is 50%

So a good move I think not.

Oh I am not bothered about that m8, and lets not forget how long you where in the lower leagues and fought hard to get where you are now.

Our time will return but at the moment pompey have a lot of re-structuring to do so the championship anywhere bar the bottom three is swell for us.

Must admit is nice seeing a southern team at the top and I for one will be supporting you back into the premiership as they have worked for it.

Right now I'm looking forward win or lose to the 18th December because with you being in leauge1 and us in the championship and before that the premiership those derby's have been missed.

                      Regards

Re: Harry Rednap Is To Stand Trial

I just hope both groups of supporters behave and stick to the measures put in place by both clubs and the plod, after all southampton have a very good chance of going up and it should not be spoilt by a few thugs.

Indeed Southampton FC should get promotion with a smooth transition and leave this league going to the next with zero trouble as that would dampen the specticule
