The British government and police faced fresh pressure over their ties to Rupert Murdoch on Saturday as the media mogul published apologies in national newspapers over the phone hacking scandal.
A day after Murdoch lost two of his most senior executives, the crisis returned to haunt the British establishment with new allegations about the close ties between the media baron's empire and the police and politicians.
Prime Minister David Cameron was forced on the defensive after it emerged that he personally had 26 meetings in 15 months with key figures Murdoch's News Corp. and its British newspaper division, News International.

Has the dirty digger yet appeared on national television whilst, out of shot, he slowly peels a small onion?

Did you expect him to not to apologise?

His initial response was that it had nothing to do with him.

His subsequent statement to the Wall Street Journal - which he owns - was that the News of the Screws had made a few mistakes.

He tried to retain the services of the people who seemed to have been directly involved, right up to the point where it became apparent even to him that they could implicate him.

Hence, his expressions of regret may be considered to be utterly insincere and just attempts at damage limitation.

By comparison, he makes the late Jan Ludwig Hoch seem almost saintly! :tinysmile_hmm_t2:

Sad thing is it is not just news international that is corrupt here, it is in every corner of business, banking and dare I say it government too.

What we have here is just the tip of a massive iceberg.

Yes, but does that really present a viable rationalisation for not ridding the UK news media and the political arena of that odious creature?

In metaphorical terms, he should now just be bashed on the head and hauled off by a hook in his mouth.

unfortunately, I think Max Clifford is not implicated as being involved apart from having his phone hacked

May as well chuck this into the mix!

                    http://www.guardian.co.uk/law/2011/j...-investigation

Bribery Act becomes law just in time for a new phone-hacking investigation

It may be a coincidence, but the new anti-bribery law could be used to prosecute police involved in the phone-hacking scandal...........

Up to 10 years in gaol and/or a fine - link - but, as it would be investigated by the Serious Farce Office, the possible penalties are mainly of academic interest as a successful prosecution seems unlikely.
