  • Britain may have to bail out bankrupt Greece

George Osborne has failed to rule out Britain riding to the rescue of Greece - suggesting taxpayers may have to fund another multi-billion pound bailout for the bankrupt EU nation.

Crumbling: Greece may pull out of the euro.

The Chancellor said yesterday that he will hold talks with fellow EU finance ministers in an effort to devise a way of propping up the ailing single currency. Fears that the bailout will be necessary were fuelled by claims that a meeting of international figures on Friday discussed the possibility of Greece pulling out of the euro because the country's debts are so out of control.
Asked whether the UK could get roped in, Mr Osborne twice refused to rule out a British contribution - although he made it clear he does not want to pay out yet more taxpayers' money.....................

Blimey - if this happens quite soon, I could be getting much more value for money when I go on my hols next month. Or much worse, as the case may be.

I would imagine the tourist areas of Greece including its islands would be pretty much un-affected by all this.

Yes there prices have to go up but the tourists just pays it as they do not know where to go to get cheaper.

No, but sometimes I wish I did. I'd rather spend our money bailing out Greece than on fighting political, useless wars in far flung places.

Perhaps the UK should make an offer for the rest of the Parthenon?

Re: Britain may have to bail out bankrupt Greece

I personally think its time we bailed out the EU altogether. We seem to have our fingers in everyone else's pie but when it gets to the nitty gritty we have to sort out our own mess, never seem to see them flocking to help us.
If we must remain part of Europe then we must be equal in all aspects not just the ones that suit the EU. First job would be to toughen up, we are learning how to cope with our rip off institutions although it has taken a lot of time and effort. Now its time to toughen up to the EU.
                  Just my opinion

I personally believe its high time we stopped bailing out each and every other country on the earth, not just those in the EU, although I also believe we should pull out of the EU altogether.

Re: Britain may have to bail out bankrupt Greece

However, good people, having worked for the EU Technical Commission in the very early nineties I should like to point out that most of the problem stems from our own weak inept politicians and a small cadre of ex public shoolboys in the upper echelons of of what is laughingly the Civil (??) Service (??).

Us ordinary mortals in this country are only allowed the bits of the EU/EEC benefits that they think we should have which are not many but are very happy to dish out ALL of the bad bits to us, their very own citizens.

I think we should be out altogether from what is a very corrupt self seeking control freak, BUT if the idiots want us to remain in it then we should have total equality in everything and that includes the removal of our get outs from the bits of the Lisbon Treaty that our also unelected judges don't like, i.e. the removal of the appended protocols giving them the right to carry on making it up as they go along.

                      regards
                      Garlok
