Town launches its own bank notes
The launch took place on Saturday on the town's Threadneedle Street
A Gloucestershire town has launched its own currency in an attempt to encourage people to spend money in the area.
The Stroud Pound has its own banknotes with portraits of local scenes, animals and celebrities.
Denominations include Cider With Rosie author Laurie Lee's £10, lawnmower inventor Edwin Beard Budding's £2 and a £5 featuring the Adonis Blue butterfly.
The notes are accepted at participating businesses and become invalid after six months.
Similar currency experiments are under way in Lewes, Sussex; and Totnes, Devon.
