Joint executor

Hi. This is my first post. Hope you can help.

My father has just passed away and my mother survives him. Myself and my brothers are executors to his will with a caveat that my mother is executor for the first 8 weeks following his death. Is this a common arrangement and if so, what is the purpose.

I have never come across this before and am interested to see what others think. No idea why someone would do it, I doubt it is even legal.

Was the will drawn up by a solicitor? You could ask them why.

I too have never heard of such a thing. It seems like an utterly impractical arrangement.
