  • Mums passing

My mum recently passed and my siblings are demanding I sign an agreement to close her bank account. The bank are aware of a family dispute so have said until the dispute is sorted the account will stay as it is. Nothing going in or out. My mum has less than 17k in there and spilt between 3 is not a lot or life changing money. My mum hasn't been passed away for even 2 months and the bank is not a priority for me. They want me to sign an agreement. I don't know excalty what this agreement says, ive said I would like . Sentimental items of my mums which are worthless to anyone but me. Once I receive them I will email the bank along with them as it needs all 3 of us to agree and close my mums account. They've said no to this and are now want to go to court and want me to pay the solicitors fees. Am I being unreasonable?

    Hi DESIEL

    Welcome to LB

    Sorry for your loss.

What you could do, is consider Mediation, this sound fairy straightforward, where 'siblings' hasn't spoken for a longtime, mutual 'mistrust', unfortunately exists. But Mediation, a third party may overcome the 'trust' issues.

The following Mediation costs nothing to use (it is up to you if you use the free service) -

I am not clear why you don't want to sign instructions jointly with your siblings to close the account and split the funds equally between you. It would seem a lot less stressful than going to court or mediation.

Is there a Will? Who are the executors?
