    Hi Pezza54
my brother only ‘lent’ the money in the last 5 years. There is no figure on the letter but it is dated. I don’t think the money was given as such as tbh my father didn’t need to. Planning permission for the barn and annexe was granted over 25 tersest ago ti my parents.

Brother and I extended the main house ten years ago on a joint mortgage with seperstd PP. He took it on himself without my knowledge to convert the annexe. It is being suggested I accept the debt against my father as yes I benefit from the increased value .
Land registry has him and I as owners on all of the site ie main residence , annexe and barn as they are on 1 title deed.

I don’t think he spent that much and there is a payment which was listed in probate for £25 k he had from my father . He accepted this was towards the cost but hadn’t put it in as a credit .
There is no gas here and the annexe is a separate building . Gas bottles were the cheap option to heat it and get hot water. It would have taken a boiler upgrade in the main house as it’s 6 bed . Do I think he can fund the barn and annexe? No he had to retire due to ill health and I know struggled as he had periods of not working. His provision wasn’t great or pension and came too soon. He claims benefits.

I have not seen electric bills as he paid them for ten years. I pay oil bills. As he had 2 children I asked him to cover electricity as there is more of them than me. They still live here as adults but in the annexe . They still use faculties of the main house ie laundry.
