  • Power of Attorney or Power Crazy

I'm new here, hopefully I am posting in the right place. I am one of four siblings, my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in the spring of 2024. Prior to this date we had been awaiting assessment and diagnosis for over a year so one of my oldest registered LPA. At the time the rest of us didn't really think anything of it and were happy for her to sort this, she is the only attorney registered. We were advised to make a will, which my brother did, sister wasn't happy about this as she has LPA and should have done this, even though the solicitor that was used was a dementia specialist and deemed our mother to have the capacity to understand and make the will. More recently things seem to have taken a turn for the worse. My oldest sister went on holiday for a month, leaving the rest of us to care for our mum, she made no contact with any of us or mum at this time. Now she is back and has almost gone power crazy. We arranged an appointment while she was away with the community nursing team who came out today and assessed mum to see if she needed any OT aids or dietician review, sister is not happy with this as she didn't know, threatened us all with a solicitor as she is in charge and only she can organise these things and no one should be granted access into the house without her say so. I guess what I want to know is what actual "power" does a power of attorney have, is it just for medical and financial decisions or to the extent where she can control everything and leave the rest of us out in the dark? We're using services under Age UK and want to arrange transport to take her to activities, can we do this without her say so?
