  • Grandparents estate

My partner died very suddenly in 2017. A couple of months ago I got a message from his sister saying our only son has inherited money from his Grandmother’s estate (£75,000). She died in 2020 and never heard from the Executor (my partners brother). He has had the money in his own account and didn’t earn any interest. We have asked the Executor for accounts / inventory but he won’t give them to us. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you very much

Grandmother being your late partner's mother?

Why do you want the accounts? If the Will stated a specified amount (not a share of the residual Estate) and that is what has been paid you are aren't entitled to see the accounts unless there is some legitimate reason why you should see them.

Even if the £75,000 had earned interest before payment the interest would have been part of the Residual Estate and not added to your son's legacy (unless the will specified otherwise).

If you want to see what the Will said you can download a copy from gov.uk
