  • A few probate questions, as filling in form to apply for GOP for my mum

Hello All - I hope everyone is well.

I am applying for probate, got the renounciation forms completed by my aunty and cousin who don't want to be executors, so I will be performing that role.

My mum's net estate after paying council care home fees and other stuff is around £18k, gross £44k. Even though no inheritance tax to pay seems I need to complete a form confirming as much, and it looked like I could do that online, but for life of me I can't work out which form to use or find the Gov link to do it online. I downloaded IHT 205 form but that's for people who died before Dec 2021, whereas my mum died at the end of Nov 2022. Can anyone steer me on this please?

Also, on probate application it asks for date when my mum and dad divorced, but it was over 40 years ago, and no paperwork exists. Any ideas how I answer that question?

I just spent over 40 mins on the phone going round in a loop, never got an answer, opening hours not mentioned. I began calling at about 10 to 5 and figured they might work till 5.30, but that came and went and I hung up.

    Thank you for any help

There isn't a separate form. IHT205 was done away with from Jan 2022. Its all just part of the probate application now providing you are an excepted estate.
