Power of Attorney

I’ll try and keep this as brief as possible.

I have been looking after an elderly gentleman for the last couple of years along with another lady (we’ll call her Betty) Betty claimed to be the gentleman’s niece but turns out to be a distant relative.

Betty got power of attorney when the gentlemen wasn’t able to make clear decisions (only due to being on medication for a urine infection).

Betty has been using this gentleman’s money on lots of personal things (holidays, kids house deposits, kids weddings etc) for some time now without his knowledge. Betty hardly cared for the man and treated him like an inconvenience.

A couple of weeks ago the elderly gent asked me if I would she would become joint power or attorney and advised he wanted to change his will. Betty put off arranging a solicitor but did book an appointment eventually.

Unfortunately the gentleman passed away and now Betty has cut me off.

I think the way Betty has treated this man is disgusting and wondered if there’s any action I can take? I have a recording of the conversation between the 3 of us which states his wishes.

I’m sure his bank statements can back up the financials.

A sad account.

I doubt there is much you can do.
The Office of Public Guardian (who police activities od attorneys) cannot investigate once the donor has passed away.

If you are the executor of the gentleman's estate you could possibly employ a forensic accountant to check what was happening, after requesting the attorney's accounts.
As Personal representative the bank would co-operate with you.

If you are not the personal representative, you could mention your concerns to whoever obtains the grant
