A business was recently willed to a friend of mine. However, there will was drawn up in 2017, and the business closed 7 months before the owner passed. My friend just heard she was willed the business, but she thinks the owner sold it a few months before she died. She has to see an attorney, obviously, but can anyone give me any information? Can someone sell something that’s been willed? Thanks!
Business willed then sold?

A person is free to dispose of his or her assets in his lifetime. If something is mentioned in a will but is no longer owned at the date of death, then that particular bequest can not be effective.
So the answer to your question "Can someone sell something that [he has] willed?" is Yes.Last edited by atticus; 26th April 2022, 14:54:PM.Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.
