  • Bereavement Support Payment, Seperated.

Hi Everyone, I hope everyone is well.

I am just wondering if anyone has any advice on how a bereavement support payment works for a separated married couple?

For example say a married couple separated and became estranged for years, the husband dies, could an estranged wife still claim the bereavement support allowance in those circumstances?

    Thank you.

    Bereavement Service helpline
    Telephone: 0800 731 0469
    Welsh language: 0800 731 0453

    Textphone: 0800 731 0464
    Welsh language: 0800 731 0456

Ring and be honest withe them:- and ask if the situation is applied in your case, failure to get it right now could lead to false claims in the future (consequences), but you must understand that:- in reality it is for living together partners not separated benefit?? as intended!

You say "separated".. if this was not a legal separation just say you were living apart

The claim form asks for the deceased's address and adds the comment " Their address if it was different from your address. If you do not know their last address, write ‘not known’." which indicates to me that even whilst living apart you can claim bereavement support allowance.
