Hi I am executor of my friends will. She passed away 5 weeks ago. I did not know that I was executor until her solicitor told me so. I am also the main beneficiary. Because I was not sure what my duties were and I am grieving her solicitor has taken it upon himself to apply for probate. I even had to ask him for a copy of the will as he did not give me one. He is also involving himself with the sale of the house. My friend has not paid him in 8 years of the complex duties he has acted for her so as a major creditor it is in his best interests to get the house in an auction asap. The house has not been lived in for 8 years and is quite run down. It is the land that is valuable as it has stunning views across the Shropshire Hills and is a much sought after location. I have not instructed him to do work even though after 5 weks he has produced a client care letter which I have not agreed or signed. I would be grateful for advice please.
