  • Do I have to sign off a set of estate accounts

I am a beneficiary of my father's estate. I have been sent an incomplete set of estate accounts followed by a threat of court action if I do not sign them. Their are assets and money missing from the estate which are still being looked into. The estate solicitor is being obstructive and refusing to provide a full set of accounts. Having all raised this, again, with the estate solicitor, I received a lengthy reply, now saying that I am a legatee and not entitled to the estate accounts. If I have no right to them, then surely there is no obligation to sign them?

The only person(s) who need(s) to sign the estate account is (are) the executor(s)

The only people entitled to a copy of the estate account are residuary legatees
*A Pecuniary Beneficiary is not entitled to see the Estate Accounts.

However, anybody with an interest in the estate can make an application to the Court for an account under Section 25(b) of Administration of Estates Act 1925 for a copy of the accounts
