  • Orange Default on Credit Report for a cancelled order

Hi, I received a copy of my Credit Report from Experian and it contains a default by Orange for an order I cancelled. The default is marked as satisfied, but not before 5 months of default.

    Summary:
    • I ordered a phone from Phones4U on Orange but then sent an email later that day cancelling the contract.
    • The following day I received a dispatch notification.
    • I repeated that I had already cancelled the order.
    • Phones4U advised to take delivery of the handset and return it.
    • I informed them I would refuse delivery and let the handset be returned to them.
    • Cue arguments over the fact they cannot cancel the order without receiving the handset back, and me telling them the handset is their responsibility until I take delivery of it, which I haven't and won't.
    • While all this is happening, Orange have already set up a contract.
    • I see a direct debit on my account, I cancel it and inform Orange the contract was cancelled with Phones4U before they dispatched the phone.
    • Orange tell me they can only accept cancellation instructions from Phones4U.
    • Then we go round and round in circles, with Phones4U telling me to contact Orange, and Orange only dealing with Phones4U.
    • Fast forward a number of weeks, and Phones4U finally have the handset back and have sent me a cheque to cover the costs that Orange are chasing me for (1 months tariff @ £25ish). I pay Orange, job done.

Or so I thought, then I see a 5 month default on my credit report for this cancelled order, with a flag of "Phone Disconnected".

I'm not sure of the best way to fix this. I can write to Orange, explain the situation and ask them to remove the default, but I need to word it correctly and I'm not sure how to.

Frustratingly, Phones4U caused all this hassle and they won't be feeling any pain!

    Thanks, Kris
