Good Evening,
This is a long post but i really need some advice please.
I hope this post is in the right category, but was unsure.
A couple of weeks ago me and my partner received a "further steps notice" from Norwich magistrates court in my partners name. It stated that we owe £250! The letter didnt state what the fine was for just had an account number that did not have any meaning to us. This letter had my partners details on but her date of birth was incorrect on the letter.
We originally thought that this letter had to do with a train fine, so we sent them a letter getting confirmation for what the fine was for and stating their error on her date of birth.
We today received a letter from them... In my opinion a very POOR letter (many mistakes) from such an important place such as the Magistrates court.
Firstly, they have my partners surname completely wrong.
Secondly this is the letter:
I am writing in response to your letter querying the further steps notice.
This case is not in relation to a train ticket, it is a television licensing matter in which on 25/01/12 (this date hasn't actually happened yet) you used a colour television without a licence at ***address***
The matter was dealt with at norwich magistrates court on 25/11/12 (again this date is yet to happen) and you should have received a summons from the television license office to attend or deal with the matter in writing (which we didn't. We have moved house in the mean time). The outcome of the hearing was to pay a fine of £250.00 in total.
As you can see date and name issues. Now when the TV license man came to the address stated in the letter, he asked us to plug the aerial in the back of the TV to see if we were receiving any channels, which he found two channels. The aerial was a wire that come out of the wall which wasn't even connected to an outside aerial (the wire had been cut on the outside for some unknown reason) We advised him that we did not watch tv only used the colour tv for gaming and DVD's. We didnt even have a freeview box. We hadn't intended to get the aerial fixed as we were only there for the short term.
And in relation to the letters that we did not receive this may be due to the fact we had moved within a couple of months.
Im very sorry for the long first post but if anyone knows what i can do, or if we can reduce this fine, any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for reading and any advice.
Kane
