    Re: AOL - demanding payment

Send AOL a letter (and copy the DCA into it) askign them why they are asking for payment when the account is closed. I'd send a copy of the email with the letter to prove the cancellation.

    This worked for me

      Re: AOL - demanding payment

I've found an address for AOL, just want to make sure it's the right one

      AOL Head Office

Address: AOL (UK) Ltd, 80 Hammersmith Road, London W14 8UD

or is there a different one?

I still can't figure out why the amounts they say I owe are so different, with the cheaper one being the most recent. Do you think they are trying to pull a fast one?

        Re: AOL - demanding payment

I've now received another letter from S R J, clearly ignoring my previous letter to them, it isn't even referenced, stating they are now going to issue litigation proceedings (going to court). I've got another letter ready to send them with information gained from a previous posting here saying that they can't legally go ahead with this as the matter is in dispute. I've also printed out the email I received from AOL on the 6/12/08 stating my account would be closed within 3 days. Should this be sent to AOL as well?

It does seem that even if AOL accept you don't owe anything the DCA don't seem to take any notice of this.

          Re: AOL - demanding payment

Just in case anyone is reading this, although it seems doubtful given the lack of responses.

I received another letter from SRJ this morning demanding payment within 7 days. I have sent them 2 letters, the last one asking that they send me proof I owed any money, why should I believe them after all, they do have a rotten reputation.

          Does anyone have any advice?

Could those who have had dealings with SRJ contact Watchdog as I feel that this company needs to have some light shed on it, I've contacted them and given them the details (up to the previous letter) but of course they won't do anything if they only hear from one or two people.

            Re: AOL - demanding payment

They won't take you to court - they are just windbags!!

I think you need to send them 1 final letter confirming you don't owe them any money (i'd include the previous letters to this letter)

Inform them that until they can provide evidence that this debt exisits then all furthe comminication from them will be ignored.

I'd also tell them that you are complaining to the authorities (Trading Standards, OFT, FOS) and that all paperwork received in the future from them will be forwarded on to support your complaint to these authorities.

I'd CC AOL into this letter too - just so they can't say they were left out the loop.

If in the very unlikely event they do take you to curt, you have all the evidence that you don't owe any money and they debt it fictious - i'd then hit them for a wasted cost order, but you can cross that bridge when you get to it - which is likely to be never!!!

              Re: AOL - demanding payment

Hi for the past 5 months SRJ Debt Recoveries have been chasing me for a non debt, finally had enough of the muppets and lodged a complaint with Trading Standards. Had a letter from Surrey Trading Standards today who are investigating them and other based Surrey Debt Collectors. If anyone else has had these lowlifes trying to intimidate/threaten or just totally disregard oft guidelines, now would be a good time to complain

What happened with the complaint with TS and SRJ Debt collections?

                  Re: AOL - demanding payment

AOHell are well known for past-cancellation billing. I think they even got in trouble for it a while ago. A quick google about the matter will probably reveal evidence of it.

                    Re: AOL - demanding payment

i too have had this problem with aol i took an account up with them for broadband in december and cancelled it the next day. 2 months down the line i receive a letter stating i owe them £291.99p and that if i didnt reply within 7 days the dbt would to transferred to a debt collector. when i rang up to cancel my account in december they told me they had cancelled it when they clearly did not. my internet did not go live and i did not have a router so they are trying to make me pay for a service which i didnt even had and one that should of been cancelled over a month ago when they told me they had done it. when i tried to ring them i spoke to an indian woman who was completely unhelpful and just told me that i had top ay the money or they would send debt collectors to my door. i have now wrote a letter to AOL's complaints department explaining all of this and told them that i am not liable to pay the money and that it is clearly and error on their behalf ..i am currently awaiting a reply.Anyone who reads this please do not go with aol for anything they are unreliable and will give you a lot of grief and also demand money!!
