I agree I don't trust the suppliers to be honest about what data may or may not be
            collected from these meters.

Re: The great Smart Meter rip off

Most people need a smart meter as they are unable to read their meters and give the supplier up-to-date readings then complain about an estimated bill as if its the suppliers fault.
Utility companys are only legaly obligated to read your meters once every 2 years.

                I disagree :sorry:

Most (if not all) meters are easy to read and I KNOW that utility company's still send out meter readers approx once a year anyway. If you miss the meter reader, a simple Google search (https://www.google.co.uk/search?clie...est&gws_rd=ssl) gives you the step by step directions for most/all meters!

Re: The great Smart Meter rip off

You miss my point meters are easy to read but most of todays society fails to read there meters or check an estimated bill , they are happy to pay for an under estimated bill but complain when an accurate bill is sent and its more that they expected.
People need to take responsibility for the energy they use and dont no or dont care what they use untill a large bill arrives and they cant pay.
I send monthly readings to my supplier ii know what i use and if i can afford it, i dont need a smart meter.

The idea is likely to be sold to the public as a benefit and of course a voluntary scheme initially, however at some point no longer voluntary although then the expected behaviour and tolerance of the public concerns will have long died down to really cause any serious impediments in its national roll out. Look at America, the UK will be no different. Who knew we were paying stealth taxes for climate change in our utility bills, well they knew we would not exactly have an urgent desire to pay it independently. Psychology 101!
