I have been using Supanet (internet and telephone and line rental) for many years but their costs have crept up (£60 a month) so I shopped around and Talk Talk would do everything I wanted for £23. I agreed with Talk Talk and took out a contract. Two days later, 7th September, a guy from Supanet rang and offered me £17 for the package so I agreed and rang Talk Talk on the 8th to cancel but they said that they would lose money if I cancelled now so they offered me £7 for the first twelve months. I rang Supanet straight away and cancelled the previous days deal. They have now sent me an early termination bill for £275 saying I didn't cancel in 5 days which is the legal deadline. What should I do? Can any one help, please?

I'm not 100% , but I think you should have at least a 14day 'cooling off period' after agreeing a new contract ......

If you haven’t yet got a finalised agreement, for example, if you haven’t yet paid or received confirmation, you can change your mind about having the service and will generally not have to pay anything. Contact the company immediately, saying you don’t want to go ahead with the service and confirm this in writing. Keep a copy of the letter.

I have had no contract. I have signed nothing. Supanet say they have no record of my phone call which terminated the contract. They have a record of my email cancelling the contract but they claim that it was after 5 days. I have no record of terms and conditions. I told them that I had a 14 day cooling off period and they said that as it was a new contract it was only five days. I have said I am not paying them, I cancelled the direct debit straight away and I am forwarding the bill to my solicitor!

Cancelling services
Your right to cancel You have 14 days from entering into a service contract in which you can cancel it.
The trader shouldn’t start providing the service before the 14 day cancellation period has ended, unless you have requested this.
If you request a service starts straightaway In this instance you will still have the right to cancel, but you must pay for the value of the service that is provided up to the point you cancel.
For example, if you buy a service like gym membership and start using the gym and then change your mind within this 14 day time period, you will be refunded but could be charged for the amount of gym time you used.

Thanks so much for your help it matters so much not to feel alone and unsupported in this process. I don't think I have done anything wrong and I am sure I don't deserve this hassle but life is sometimes like that.
