Hi i hope someone can help me on this one . I want to know if there is some kind of comsumer law that covers all service providers that states how long you have to pay after the due daye on your bill. I always thought you had 14 days before they could restrict your service is that right? Also talktalk now apply a £10 admin fee if you pay late are they allowed to do this?.) And a £4.95 non payment by direct debit fee. My August bill was overdue and also Septembers due on the 22nd. Yesterday i paid august bill plus the added charges which took my bill from £35.05 to £49.05. My september bill was due to be paid on 22nd sept which i thought i had at least 14 days to pay however they have restricted my service no broadband or calls until i pay the september bill. Can they do this? Thankyou

Re: talktalk how long after due date to pay bill
What will happen if I don’t pay my invoice?
This from their T&Cs, I think the 14 days applies to paper bills and you are given 14 days. Paying by DD brings penalties if not paid on the due date.
If your payment has not reached us by your due date, your services may be at risk of disruption which we try to avoid at all costs.
Your payment is due 14 days from the date of your invoice and by paying via Direct Debit, we can guarantee your services. If you would like to set up a Direct Debit to avoid missing payments, you can contact a member of the Customer Services team on 0800 083 3003.
If there is a reason for late payment, we would be made aware in advance in order to discuss an appropriate course of action. You can contact Credit Control on 0800 083 1236

Re: talktalk how long after due date to pay bill
Yes, they can impose charges for not paying by direct debit.
If you paid the August bill yesterday, no doubt that is the reason your service has been restricted, rather than the September bill - although that will probably lead to the same issue and, not sure how these things work, they may not reinstate normal service as you are still in default until September's bill is paid.
There is no law that I am aware of which specifies how long you have to pay a bill.

Re: talktalk how long after due date to pay bill
the length of time you have to pay differs with the company you are with.
some companies will give you 14 days grace, some 30, other companies will expect paying on producing the bill (especially companies who only accept DD.
I would check the T&C of the contract.
£4.95 seems an extreme amount for not paying by DD but if they have this in the contract clearly, they can.
As for the late payment fees, yes, they can charge you... some companies have it in their t&cs they can also charge you interest but they don't enforce it. Mobile phone companies actually have it in the contract they can (if payments are continuanally late) charge you late payment fees.
I would suggest you contact talk talk and ask to change your billing date to a later date, which shouldnt be a problem, to stop you incuring charges again.

Re: talktalk how long after due date to pay bill
I tried to contact talk talk by phone today but because i have an outstanding balance i must pay this before i can speak to an advisor. So i cant even speak to someone because they dont give me this option on their automated service this is disgusting. Talk about talktalk avoiding talking its a joke. Also i noted that these charges that they say are due are not for services I have received yet they are advanced charges for the package for october and since this bill i have made no calls.so how come my service is still restricted surely they can not restrict my service if the only thing outstanding is a payment for a service that i have not yet used and can not use because talkttalk have restricted it so i can not use internet or make calls even though i have
paid what i have used? Do you get it because I
don't get it??
