Just returned from holiday to discover that Eon have obtained a warrant, disconnected my gas and fitted a pre-payment meter to collect a gas debt from a previous tenant. I had faxed to Eon sight of my AST two months when I received mail directed to the previous tenant, plus i gave Eon my gas meter readings; I have heard nothing since from them. I have a disability so getting to the shops to top a pre-payment meter up is difficult for me as I am often housebound. Right now I have no gas to cook or for the heating/hot water. Eon have left a note in my home telling me they did this with a warrant, but, I have received nothing from them. If I had received a warrant I would have been at the Court to explain the position. Eon's letter informs me they have put a 'blanking disc' in my meter and so it cant be used until a Gas Safety Engineer has checked it...at a further cost of £93.00. Can someone out there please advise me? Can Eon do this? If not, how do I get rid of this pre-payment meter? If Eon allowed me to top up the meter via the internet as British Gas do, I would have no issues with it, assuming of course they didn't expect me to pay off someone else's debt, but, Eon do not offer this service so the only way I can top up the pre payment meter is by going out of my home and getting to the shops.

This is quite an alarming thing to have happened so my advice is simple, put everything down in an email in a chronological order and attach with a scanner any correspondence you have had if you have kept copies of correspondence to Tony Cocker who is the CEO of EON. The issue you have is wrong debtor, vulnerable customer which you would be classed as and the fact that you have no heating today.

Thank you. I will contact Tony Cocker. For some strange reason EON also switched off the electricity to the property so I returned to find the freezer defrosted; Eon have left a note saying they have done this as a safety element but, as I have only returned home today, all my food was defrosted and I slipped on the wet floor as I didn't see the wet in the dark. I didn't think for one moment my gas had been disconnected, I thought a fuse had gone until I saw the paperwork Eon had left in my apartment.

Actually I think this might be one for for wachdog or you and yours. These are name and shame consumer programmes and very often their influence will produce wonderous results. But I do agree follow the advice of the other posters. also work out the value of the food you have lost and bill Eon for that .
