If £1.50 of gas lasted for 3.75 hours, then 24 hours at the same rate of consumption would cost:
    (24/3.75)*1.5 = £9.60

Either the meter is most egregiously wrong or someone is stealing gas from you!
Hi - thanks for making that so clear - I have done a further calculation:
9.60 + 1.30 for pilot being on daily = 10.90 x 7 £76.30 wkly, x 52 = 3,967.60, plus the arrears wkly of 3.55, I make that £4,152.20 per year! Even if I cut that in half it still seems to be huge but BG still say it is right and that the only tariff available to me is Standard, and "you are on the same rate as everyone else".

      It is huge.

It is also absurd. How many cubic metres of gas (or cubic feet of gas) is apparently consumed merely by having the pilot light burning? (The meter should state whether it reads cubic metres or cubic feet.)

Hi - no, but I do have a pub next door to me. Have just borrowed to put that damn thing back on again this afternoon, I don't mind extra sweaters but washing in cold water etc and cold clothes to put on in the mornings, actually have taken to going to bed still dressed. Currently trying to speak to the prepay team at BG re my electric meter that won't let me access my emergency credit. Have tried putting the key in when the meter balance is somewhere between £1.00 and 50 pence and after it has dropped below 50p but still nothing. My electric sometimes switches off when the meter says I have in excess of £2.00 balance remaining - so really cannot fathom it out or why it now shows a weekly charge of £1.19?
Will try BG all afternoon, waiting time at the moment to be on hold is 45 minutes.

couldn't make this up - really! BG tell me that it is my combi boiler that used £1.00 per hour, as monitored today by me. The same boiler that they serviced for years and never ever cleaned up the central heating system! Now it is off again and I have topped up the card and *****er me - the meter has stopped reading my card and so they are sending an engineer - and then i will have to wait for a new card in the post, and the engineer might change the meter, and take away all their dodgy data, and leave me a credit of £10 that will pay them their weekly arrears first so not really ten pounds, and, at a pound an hour, that will last me till oooh...tomorrow?

Sounds like the meter is faulty.

Hi - yeah, I think IF is the operative word there, anyway, they have just left, replaced the meter totally and at least now I will be able to see if this is racking up in the same way then it hones it down

                      thanks

Urgent help needed - BG now want to add more debt to this new meter saying they got their sums wrong. They are gonna add another £193.65 and say I owe more now than when I was ringing BG for the balances routinely. Can they do this? would they need a warrant?

Firstly, ask them to them to provide you with a detailed breakdown of ALL charges, payments, etc., for the three years before they broke into your home and installed a taximeter, and up to the present day following the taximeter's installation. If they refuse, then I would be inclined to start questioning their accounting practices and actions.

Secondly, if it does show that BG have cocked-up - not hard for them - I would work out how much they have taken from you that they are not entitled to demand or receive, claim this back and have them remove the taximeter.

Hi and thanks again - I doubt if I can stop them as they say they are transferring it to the meter, and yes I have asked for the breakdown of bills etc but they are not obliged to send as I haven't been able to afford the ten pounds for the SAR thus making it an enforceable request. Ditto with Siemens data collection company who I have not given permission to process my data anyway. I rang BG earlier about this extra money they want and they also confirmed that despite being on benefits and about to suffer from the changes in that system, they added £181+ in charges to my account along with this extra bit they now want too. The £181 is for the fraudulent obtaining of the warrant which I cannot get an answer from the Magistrates Court too and it is something else to add to the file until such time that I can collate properly and take legal action myself. Oh and they still owe me for the times their engineers have left us in the cold as per the codes, £30 a day plus interest.

Hi -havn't had any responses from MPs, I sent info out ages ago but might try again, meantime, I note that the £10 credit left for our use on friday is still in credit with this meter and not running at extortionate rate
