  • Talk Talk take 2 payments a month

    Hi guys,
Ok, Talk Talk took money from my partner's account as per the bill due on the 5th March. All ok so far. Then on the 29th March, they attempt to take out another payment that we had no prior knowledge of. We had no notification of this, so it was unexpected, and my partner had transferred money to my a/c to pay the rent, and hadn't received his wages yet, so there wasn't sufficient funds in the a/c. For this, he was charged an unpaid item fee by his bank ( Co op) for £15.

When he called Talk Talk, they said there was no manager to speak to, and that this payment was taken out early due to the bank holiday, but the bank holiday isn't until the 9th March! So that's rubbish. Really, anyone any idea where we stand legally with this?? The bank suggest that we get Talk Talk to pay the £15! I can't believe that Talk Talk can legally just dip into your account whenever they want - twice in one month! I will write to them explaining the issue, but where do we actually stand with this, does anyone know?
    Thankyou!

We cancelled our contract with them for exactly this sort of reason. To my mind they are the single most appalling telecommunications company in this country. I even felt sufficiently strongly against them to follow their sales team through our village (they left after about 10 minutes) telling every door at which they knocked not to change to such an appalling company.

Within that 10-15 minute period I had 100% more success than they did! I was very popular.

I think you need to look at the contractual Terms and Conditions to see what can be done about this specific issue.

As Labman says they are abysmal! We were left with an unusable landline and shoddy broadband when "an outage" hit our village, the timescale for fixing it, might be 3 weeks might be 3 years your in contract.. your problem"

Keep making complaints and ask to speak to the Higher Escalations Team. If they refuse, speak with Ofcom.. they already have huge files on talktalk.

I would also suggest demanding a rebate of the bank charges due to this!

        Thankyou guys!
Do I demand the rebate from the bank, because they are saying the charge stays, and that we should go to Talk Talk for the money! That's what they said.

As I said, you can try a 'sob story'to the co-op. i've found them good, but others will say the exact opposite.I suspect it's Talk Talk you should really be pursuing for the fees.

no, explain the situation to TalkTalk (ask for someone in authority) and say that if the payment had gone though correctly you would not have been charged a fee from your bank, and therefore you require those monies back.

Also, I would suggest a letter to them of complaint, ask for an investigation to be made, ask how much contract you have left.. and i would suggest going else where, in my many talents (yeh right) I used to have to compare broadband/landline prices for a living (worked for 02). If you are up for renewal of contract and want help lemme know and i'll talk you through it.

If you dont get satisfaction from your letter, you must allow 6 weeks for stalemate, then you can speak with Ofcom. Keep making complaints about the issue, and ask for a letter of stalemate.

Ok, so it's 6 weeks.....Is it worth going to the ombudsman or straight to ofcom? We only entered into the contract in November last year.

We asked to speak with a manager today, and were told there was no manager there, which is ludicrous, as there always has to be a manager or supervisor on duty, surely?

the ombudsman will insist you follow TalkTalks complaints proceedure (on their website).
you need to go through talk talk first, make as many complaints as nessacary, but inform them that you will go to ofcom.

If you were to cancel with them now they are legally allowed to charge you termination fees (used to be £70) as you are breaking contract, but when you do swap you need to ask for a MAC code for a transfer.

We don't plan on leaving, as I'm aware of the charges. I have phoned, emailed, and prepared a letter for Talk Talk, so they will certainly know about this issue....But apparently, I've just read I have to wait 8 weeks before I can take it to the ombudsman! Is ofcom the same as the ombudsman, sorry if I being dense here, I really don't know these things. Do I take it to both? Am I within my rights to ask Talk Talk to pay the banks fees? I am writing to the bank as well.

I am with talktalk, and i havent had many problems ,apart from once when they changed me onto a new tarriff without asking my permission
I complained and they gave me 3 months free rental, and changed me back
The main reason i stay with them though, is because i use my landline a lot during the day, so prefer their anytime tarriff to the evening and weekend free calls,,
It didnt take much to get them to give me the free line rental, and i didnt even ask for management
I know there have been some complaints about talk talk, but up to now they are the cheapest i have found, for my needs

Ok, thanks. It's looking like they do this a lot from all the stories I'm hearing, and people have been having their charges refunded, so we'll see. Need this like a hole in the head right now, but there you go..... Cheers everyone!
