  • Brittish Gas Ripping me off?

Hi , I'm a student currently living in a rented house. Since the start of the year we have been paying bills to Brittish Gas BUSINESS ! We only realised a month or two ago and have now switched to residential Brittish gas as we had a letter saying 'your first brittish gas bill' few weeks ago.

My question is have we been ripped off , are the business rates more expensive? And are we entitled to get money back if so?

    Cheers

You can check the tariffs on the British Gas website, but I would assume that business prices are higher than domestic.

Have you complained in writing to British Gas and asked them to investigate?

As Amy says, try writing to them, explain everything and see what they come back with.

Your tariffs should be on your bills, even if its a business or domestic one.

I think business rates are negotiable between BG and the company if I am not mistaken. BG consistently adsvertise on tv that they are the cheapest but I suspect many people do not bother to check due to apathy. I admit I have not yet checked, always something else to do first!! My electricity and gas are via BG.

One thing I would state is that people will sometimes get letters from BG telling them that, due to usage, they are putting up your monthly direct debit payments. IF you believe that payments are in order and sufficient for usage damn well tell them. They tried for 2 years to up our payments and each time we said, touch them and we leave. They didn't touch them.

This year, without any increases implemented by them I got £112 credit back into my account through less usage than they claimed I would use.

Remember, they are YOUR servant, not the other way around.

You pay a different rate of VAT on a business tariff, also a climate change levy, I'm a bit rusty on this but yes it would have effected the bottom line - the bill.
