  • Electric company wont connect me

    Hi

    I arranged a viewing at a property last week with an estate agent. The property needs some work, specially the celling tiles on the upper floor. There is also no electric in the property. The estate agent said that there was no electric in there because the property was not in use.

    After the viewing with the estate agent. I hung around out side the property for a whiles to see if I could catch anyone with any information regarding the property. And to my luck 2 ladies turned up to open up the property. I explained who I was and what I was doing and they told me that they where looking after the property for the landlord and they showed me round!

    I asked if she know the previous tenant and where I could find him and why he is no longer the tenant. She told me his name and where to find him and said he was hardly hear! He never bothered to advertise the place! Or anything

    She said the damage to the celling tiles on the upper floor was done by Not the last tenant but the tenant just before him, as he was using the property as a “grow farm” and she kicked him out! She said there was no electric in the property because the last tenant did not pay the bill and they cut him off. She showed me the room where the meter was and there was a smart meter mounted to a metal box. She said inside that box there are 2 master fuses that the electric company removed. She also said that prior to all of this that she was the tenant her self but became ill so she could not continue with it. She also told me that the electric supplier was British gas

    The following day, I managed to get hold of the last tenant. He said the electric was cut off by the electric supplier by way off removing the 2 fusees in the box (as described above) Because the tenant before him who was using it as a grow farm had a secondary illegal insulation from out side of the property which they disconnected that one two. He told me that he all ready had an account with the electric company and they came in and removed the 2 fuses and said that they had reeenergised the property and that it would cost him £7K to reenergise the property with a £1K up front deposit to pay. He said because of that he then left the property

    Today I called there customer service number, Requesting information on how to get the property connected. After spending nearly one hour on the phone and speaking to 7 reps, there where unable to help and told me that I needed to recall them again on the same number and ask for the “connection and metering” department. I also asked for a copy of the call and they said I would have to re call them and ask for customer services.

    I tried calling them again and this time I could not get though

    I contacted there live chat and they said they said there was no such thing as a connection and metering team, and they where unable to assist me further until I had moved into the property. I asked to make a complaint and I was told we cant do that until you have moved into the property. I said that I was being blackmailed, no response was given! I asked for a transaction of the chat. I was told that option would be available by a red pin after the chat was ended. There was no red pin available as the rep had lied to me!

    The business is to be used as a bar and restaurant. I need fridges, freezers and chillers for keeping beer cool and food fresh. It is vital for me to have electric so I can trade! I need to know if they can connect the electric for me before I sign the lease. Since they have the monopoly over the supply. This is pure entrapment! Do I have the right to send an electrocution in the reconnect it? And send them the bill for it?

    You are not having much luck with electricity supplies! Have you considered that this might not be the best property for you?

        That conclusion does not follow from anything I have written.

          let me get this strieght!

          The last tenant had a binding contract with the electric company. Then the electric company cut his supply off and tried black mailing him for a 7K fee. And now the electric company are refusing to connect me and it is me that is doing it all wrong not the electric company as they must be doing it all right!

            You started post 1 by saying that you have viewed this property. Have you gone further than that, but not seen fit to tell us?

              What makes you say that British Gas have the monopoly over the supply? Could you not choose to go with a different supplier. Have you tried shopping around?

                It is of my understanding that when person(s) take possetion of new property. They must go with the original supplier first before they can make the change

                  So you have done more than look at the property, you have taken possession of it. It would help if you did not omit important details.
