I live in a house which the owner has effectively abandoned. Since 2009. Electric is in their name still (long story). I tried to get Eon to look at a prepayment on the key which didn't register at the point of sale - a later top up did. They would not deal with me as I am not the owner nor have any kind of legal tenancy. They suggested I get the account put in my name but the owner is very uncommunicative. He is a funny one, lets, say that. There was no issue a few years ago getting a replacement key.
So what I really need advice on is what to do if I encounter any such issues in the future? I mean, I could try and get him to agree in principle but he'll likely not even bother to respond to any formal requests or communications. One thing I thought may be possible is to ask the County Court to make an order - like a 'notice of legal occupation' or something. This would also cover me for any other problems which may come up unrelated to power supply. But a simpler solution would be better. I can just carry on as things are but I don't want to be plunged into darkness whilst any problems get resolved - better to at least have an idea of how to proceed for the best.
Related but not relevant right now: do I have a right to an electric supply in any event?
