  • Ofgem and Utility Company Compensation?

Hi, On the news today it was reported that various major utility companies will have to pay compensation to anybody that had no choice in the matter of forcibly having a prepayment meter fitted? Also people were also having their debts written off as well?
My daughter had this situation with Scottish Power a few years ago for an electricity debt she had? They just turned up with a court order and the guy that fits the meter, she didnt get a choice.
    She's not heard anything?
    Any clarification on this?
    Thankyou

Scottish Power are one of the companies compensating customers, they will be aware that a meter was 'forced', so there isn't a need to do anything.
In saying that, if you don't hear anything in the next 4 weeks, write to customer services, explain that your daughter should be compensated as per
OFGEM review regarding the way suppliers switched vulnerable customers to paying upfront, without their agreement, after they fell behind with their bills.

Hi, there was no notification from the utility company over the weeks so we got in touch by email and their reply was i have spoken to my management team and as a resolution to your complaint we can offer £75 as a matter of goodwill and are we satisfied with this resolution?
I said we'll get back to you but that doesn't appear to be nowhere near what others were offered and they didn't even have to ask.
Any idea what others were offered for meters forcibly fitted and a suitable reply?
      Thankyou in advance

No, but maybe check what other customers have been offered via Google. No doubt other customers have made comments.
You could lodge a formal complaint in writing, follow complaints procedure, once you get a final response, if your still not happy
lodge a complaint with the Services Ombudsman.

        https://www.ombudsman-services.org/

You could make a counter offer, something you know they won't pay, but they'll comeback with another offer that maybe
acceptable. Your letter will start by thanking them for their offer. But you decline the offer, however you will consider £XXX
because of the stress / anxiety this has caused. You may want to add personal circumstances etc. State that you look
        forward to hearing from them.

They got back to us with a person who said she would be handling the complaint and didn't get back to us until today.
She said the complaint has 'been reviewed by Ofgem and themselves concerning how they managed changes to my daughter's pay as you go service'.
After reviewing they say she eill not be entitled to compensation?
They are offering £125 compensation and if she wishes to decline that it will go to deadlock as they are offering wgat they feel is a fair resolution?
Should she have any evidence of wrong doing by them please send it to them through this thread.
Considering she was one of the customers that forcibly had a prepayment meter fitted and weren't taking no for an answer.
And considering many others by various suppliers were given in excess of £750
            for the distress it caused.
Should we pursue this further given their stance through the ombudsman etc
Or does she risk losing the £125 offered totally? Thankyou for any advice.

Send Scottish Power a Subject Access Request, they have 30 days to provide all the data on the account.
Make it a general request, don't specify why you want the data. If they've set a deadline ask for an extension to seek
advice. You can email it to them.

But how will that help her for a bit more compensation like other people got?
If we go down the Ombudsman route and they see the messages and what was said surely she must have a case?
                Thankyou.
                Anybody else?

They say 'bring us the evidence', there maybe more evidence, sending a SAR is free, clearly up to you.
