  • Check them bills

I have always checked my utility bills, mistakes can be made we all know that.
I really don't like nasty surprises either, so I always have an idea what my bills will be.
This is only my third bill in this house and the first time we have been all electric, so really hadn't a clue as to what the bills were going to be.
We have a day and night rate and as the early birds amongst us will know I have my washer, drier and dishwasher on well before 7.29 when the day rate kicks in.
So the meter was read last week and I got the numbers, worked bill out to about £640.
Went on line this morning bill £850, oh me thinks, something not quite right here.
So am watching meter and making sure I have
my tarriifs right re day and night.
Yes 7.29 click and the day rate comes on, so my thoughts were right.
Meter reader had given the figures wrong way round.
Rang BG all I got was an apology, tried my best to negotiate a cheaper rate but there are none when you are only on a single fuel.
So I will wait till all the prices are dropped and have another look around BG are the cheapest in my area at the moment.
I know the figures would have righted themselves next time, but I really could have struggled to find the extra £200 they were charging and we all know these people wont let you owe them.
    So please check your bills.

    Re: Check them bills

I have something similar with SP at work, the meter was read last time by one of their officers. The bill came in quite high on an estimated reading so I went to check it the meter reading now. Odly, the meter reading is showing less than the reading the time before when their own officer read the meter - so I have asked them to come out and re-check it. I think the officer from SP has of transposed the figures, otherwise it does not make sense. They are sending someone to read the meter.

It is worth checking everything to day, mistakes do happen.

      Re: Check them bills

Well British Gas are trying their hardest to get rid of me again.
After getting the mis reading sorted out, I paid my bill on line.
Having signed for the 'Save the Planet' paperless bill scheme, paying by card is my only option.
Did all you do correctly, got a receipt almost straight away and thought that's sorted for another 3 month.
About 4 hours later got email saying payment hadn't gone through, to ring this number.
So I rang, thinking it would be straight through to a 'human being'. Oh no just the same old press 1 2 or 3 crap and the opportunity to pay the bill again.
Not happy with this, as you are talking over £600 here, I kept pressing till I spoke to someone.
I explained what had happened "Oh yes " she said "We had a lot of problems yesterday with online payments". So then she checked my account, it was clear and the payment had indeed gone through.
So once again they didn't quite get it right IMO, in fact the woman was almost laughing at the situation till I told her it was in no way a laughing matter. This bill could have been paid twice off my card causing no end of problems for myself and them if by chance there was not enough credit on the card.
So I'm going to write a letter of complaint, not that it will do any good, but I will feel better.
When I leave them at the end of the 12 month contract and they ask why I'll say your quote

      "What makes us different
      "

"Everything we do is driven by our core values. We aim to:

Provide the highest level of customer service at all times."

and it didn't quite happen, for me anyway.
