Hello, new here, my mum who is a pensioner has been back billed by EDF for July 2019 to Nov end 2020. The gas smart meter has not been sending readings to them for this whole period and as a result they have been using estimated readings. They are stating that they are entitled to back bill, because although the the bills are based on estimated readings they have still billed even though clearly the bills are not correct. I have a woman name Karen dealing with the complaint made by me on behalf of my mum, she seemed adamant about this and came of as stand offish. I am now worried she will try and back bill for even before July 2019 out of spite even though the meter sent it's final reading on July 2019.
I just wanted to ask if anyone else has read ofgems back dating regs and understands that (how I interpreted them) that energy companies can't back bill over 12 months if they have not sent accurate bills.
Direct quote from website "You cannot be charged for gas or electricity used more than 12 months ago if you have not been correctly billed by a supplier" I'm pretty sure this means even if they have billed you if it's not been correct they can't back bill over 12 months
or has anyone had any luck with energy ombudsman successfully getting backbilling over 12 month's quashed.
