  • British Gas: Irresponsibe use of private data

    Hello All,
I recently had a credit company contact me about a default with British gas 5 years ago. We thought we had closed the account and all was paid up.
Now having all the letters I see that despite having my new address British gas made three attempts to contact me at the old address before defaulting the final bill. They then sold my details to a credit company which has had an adverse affect on my credit rating five years later. I'm angry they did not contact me at the new address given to them at the time all those years ago.

Can I make a complaint about mismanagement or unreasonable use of data? It means I had a default against my name for years because there was no real attempt to contact me at the new address I gave them. Thanks All. Margot
