  • House offer

Hi, I offered on a house via a solicitor. We did not get anything in writing back from vendors solicitor, regarding acceptance of deal or anything. Deadline for offer acceptance has passed. I can not proceed now. Am I obligated to buy? Will the vendors chase for money? Estate agents said we would have our offer accepted if we offered but have heard nothing from them since the offer. Nothing from vendors solicitor has been received. The time has been about a week.

Are you in Scotland or England? If England as far as I am aware there is no obligation to proceed

Either side can pull out before conclusion of missives.

Your offer via solicitor will have had several terms under which you can pull out.

Likewise if you do receive an acceptance on your offer it will have several terms detailing that the seller can pull out with no penalty.

The lack of reply accepting your offer could be for several reasons. The plausible is that the seller's solicitor is useless. Ha e your own solicitor chase the seller's solicitor, and you request the estate agent to contact the the seller directly.

In the meantime, and if indeed the purchase has fallen through, you have no obligations nor are you on the hook for any payments to the vendor.
