i don't know if this is specifically a Scottish issue but I'll log here to start. I got a card 20mths ago that said it was valid 24mths. The shop without telling me changed terms to a validity of 12mths but refuse to refund me so I'm filing a civil court claim. When prompted for the reason for filing what do I say eg. Breach of contract? Failure to provide service? Failure to provide goods?

The first thing to do is to check the T's & C's when the Gift Card was purchased, what do they say?, even if they say they have the right to change the expiry date of the Gift Card, the T's & C's might be 'unfair'.
Also before you commence legal proceedings, you need to try everything to resolve the matter without going to Court.
Complain to their H/O, how did you pay for the Gift Card? Can you consider a Section75 claim? Are they members of an arbitration scheme?
Also remember to follow Pre-Action Protocols.
