    Re: Very slow internet

Mine can vary jester, maybe it would be an idea to do speed times at certain times of the day then perhaps?
It would be interesting to know.
I live in South Wales, so not sure how close or far I am from these Exchange depts.
    Thanks for that.

Living in South Wales does not preclude you from having a decent broadband speed ... unless you live in the hill-caves !!

I also live in South Wales, and though I don't get blisteringly fast broadband, it is adequate for my needs. There are quite a few sites that give you information about what your local exchange is, what it is geared up for and also where the exchange is located. Unless you live out in the sticks, then it is unlikely you are more than 5 miles from the exchange !!

lol that gave me a right giggle then Jester "living in the caves" lol. I may live on a hill but that's as far as it goes.

Thanks for your info tho, as stated in an earlier post I have no idea about these things, interesting though.

        Another from South Wales then?

          Re: Very slow internet

We're less than a mile from the exchange. Its always been terrible broadband since we bought this house.
When we moved here we had Tiscali. the speed was good but the support was awful!
Switched to BT and the connection was totally unstable. kept disconnecting for no reason, would be off for hours at a time. When it did work the speed would be all over the place to the point where pages would regularly timeout.
Switch to talktalk and they told us the line would be upto 6Mb max. Well speedtest regularly shows speeds above 8Mb.
sometimes the ping speed is lightning quick and other times is awful slow. There seems to be no pattern whatsoever.
          Hope this helps

I lived in the mountains most of my life. But the lure of electricity and other wondrous innovations like gas and civilisation meant I moved down to the edge of the City. So now I also get stuff like broadband

                Very nice Jester.

My sister in law has a farm right at the top of the mountain, and seems to have good connection, so no issues there with connection to what I'm aware of.

And majority of the family in the Welsh Valleys, Rhondda being one of them, and they seem to have good connection from where they live too.

I am actually based not far from the Police HQ, Torfaen/Gwent which was why I assumed I was or sometimes get some connection problems.

Aaaah yes. I can see your problem. All those data packets running down the hillside on the back of sheep will be a little on the slow side. Obviously, your sister-in-law has fitter sheep as they seem to get down the hillside quicker than yours

Are you suggesting that the Police HQ are nicking all your broadband speed ? I knew Gwent Police were devious, but that's quite a claim !! LOL

Now if you lived further West like I do, then not only would you have a decent broadband speed, but you'd also have some decent football and rugby teams too :P

                  *Hides before inevitable slap*

Have you concidered maybe it's your computers, maybe one has malware or and Virus, even if its not highly detectable it would definatley contribute to slower internet. Malware will be spread the wealth with your info sending cookies and all the sort to other places and may well slow things down for you. I've had it and had to do a cokplete overhaul

Both comps are running Avast AV which is updated daily. Both machines have been deep scanned with AV and also been scanned for malware with ccleaner.

My laptop's even been reformatted to see if that helps (as i had bad virus in the past which 2 AV programs couldnt repair or delete.

Getting to the point where i just feel like kicking the crap outta both machines now

Can I then suggest picking your fav wall and giving it a good throw???

Awesome though well done on the clean up the only other think i highly highly recommend for scanning is spybot search and destroy totally free and simple small file download cleans the hell out everything O

ther than that if its the connection to your router, try doing a test to see the data packs recieved etc and if thats ok then possibly speak to the ISP unfortunatley i've not had the slow connection problem I live about 200 yeards from the exchange.

I actually do have spybot on mine but for some reason didnt think to use it. I'll give it a try and see what it turns up. We seem to be getting a lot of errors on the wireless. I'll see if i can get the picture up here for you to nosey at lol

One day I'll get the hang of this attaching pics lark lol
