  • Real Geeky Topic - Barebone Bundles !!

I know there are many more 'computer-geeks' on the site than just Curly or me, so this is a question for such 'geeks' !!

*Dons tin-foil hat that was filched from Curly*

One of my PC's (I have 5 under my desk all connected to a KVM switch) has finally given up the Ghost. Bloody thing rebooted without warning and now refuses to even get as far as BIOS load. Not quite sure what happened to it (wasn't a power-surge as they are all protected from that and none of the others had the same thing happen), but after several hours of exhaustive test this morning, I have come to the conclusion that the Motherboard has turned up it's toes and headed for the silicon recycler in the sky !!

So, being a complete geek, I want to buy a barebone bundle. I've no need to buy a complete system. Aint got the room for another keyboard, mouse and monitor anyway. Also, I have hard disk drives coming out of my ears (including two 500Gb Hard Drives already installed in said 'dead' computer).

I've always bought barebone bundles off Novatech. I've found them cheap, reliable and with the bonus that they prebuild most of it before shipping (meaning I only have to add HDD's and DVD drives to get it working) and they come in a brand spanking new case !!

Been looking at the Novatech site in the last 30 mins and can see that an adequate barebone bundle is there for £109 (AMD X2 4200, 2Gb RAM, 1 IDE slot and 4x SATA slots, PCIe etc).

Whilst I like and trust Novatech, before I bite the bullet and purchase said unit, does anyone else have any similar site that they use for purchasing barebone bundles at reasonable prices and how good is the service ? I want to get it running as soon as possible again cos I have am halfway through downloading Season Four of House (*Oops*)

I am quite happy to use Novatech again, but would be interested in other places and maybe saving a bit of money (especially as I had to shell out for a new dishwasher last week after the old one blew-up on New Years Day).

    Cheers
