  • Uk e-passport question

Can someone kindly explain why you have to 18 or over to use the e-gates at Gatwick Airport ?

Sorry if sounds a dumb question but I am intrigued to know why.

    Thank-you

Thanks so much Kati and I am very interested to know as explanation from Border Control at Gatwick was very unclear / vague when asked.

My OH and 16 year old daughter who both have e-passports were stopped on Thursday returning from Italy due to my daughters age.

Why issue her with an e-passport if she cannot use it ?

I have been searching everywhere for a good reason apart from 18 years +

And sorry if I need to put the question in writing to someone senior, would you know who ?

Your help is always appreciated :tinysmile_twink_t2:

I've got a pdf document from a FOI request that I'll upload in the morning ... it goes into lots of detail about the uk trials and reasons behind the decisions on e-passports. A long read (30 ish pages) but interesting all the same  x
