This e-mail comes with an infected attachment that causes the problems.

Not limited to UPS, but also FedEx, DHL, etc.
If in doubt NEVER open an attachment on an e-mail, even from people you actually know.

Courier always contact you via failed delivery card though your door or by telephone. They are unlikely to ever have your email address as chances are the sender will not even know your email address anyway. Plus we deal with couriers daily and not once have we been asked to provide a customer email address, only telephone and that itself is usually optional.
