  • Visibility of file deletion on a Case Management System

    Hi,

If a firm of solicitors uses a Case Management System (CMS) to manage their client matters/cases and deletes a client’s entire case file, would this act be visible in their CMS audit logs?

Would there be an audit log for each of the individual files (eg documents, scans, emails) that were contained in the deleted case file and would these logs still exist after the case file deletion? I.e. would each individual file audit log still exist and indicate when that file was created, edited, then deleted and by whom?

Would any emails linked to that particular deleted case file be deleted entirely or would they still exist on the platform they were sent from/received on?

    Many thanks

The simple answer is that most, if not all, case management software packages do log all entries, deletions etc.

Getting at the details that you seek is likely to require support of an IT specialist with knowledge of the particular software. This will be beyond the skill set of most lawyers and law firm managers.
