Hi,
I know this is a hotly contested area so admins please feel free to reject the thread.
I am wanting to build an ai image generator that specifically creates fictional city skylines. Most of the image generators I've found are a bit naff if you don't want some kind of sci-fi or cyberpunk skyline.
As I know copyright is contested when it comes to ai model training, I've managed to find a source of free to use (including commercial use) stock images of city skylines, so copyright isn't much of an issue in that regards.
HOWEVER, I notice that quite a lot of these images have skyscrapers with logos on them, which in my mind would come under copyright as they are well known brands who have enough money to put their name on literal buildings in some of the most expensive cities in the world.
Now, these ai generated images will be used in a web comic strip, the end images will need skylines with skyscrapers bearing logos but these logos will be of fictitious companies present in the comic strip, whose logos a friend of mine (a professional graphic designer) designed for me. None of the ai generated images will use logos from real world companies (not only to avoid litigation but also it doesn't make much sense in-universe), but am a little worried of the potential legal implications of using logos from some of the world's largest corporations in my training material.
Would such use fall under fair use given its only about their placement rather than what the logos themselves represent or is this still a dicey area legally?
Thanks
