    Hi
bought a house a few months ago. Anyway mortgage broker then suggested an insurance policy to cover the mortgage if I died.

He gave me some figures and I asked for details. None provided. He asked me some medical questions over phone and said he would send to in’s company.
i had have a policy in place anyway so was not to interested. I then got an email from in’s company telling me I’d consented to them accessing my medical records. I’d not been asked id not consented id not signed anything and frankly really mad. I complained to ins company.

5 months pass and one day I get email from ins company. Basically passed medical issues. Agent had set everything up and the premium of 200 was coming out my bank the following day.

I was so cross. I’d not seen any details. Not been spoken too. Not asked if I was happy . Basically sold sold something without buying it.

I’ve complained to big ins company. They said they would investigate it. 4 weeks later get a letter from a third party saying insurance company passed my complaint on to mortgage broker who then got someone to write to me telling me I must have consented it was impossible to get my medical records without consent.

I knew nothing about my medical records being accesed

i I knew nothing about the policy set up

    im furious this can happen

    any advice appreciated.

Have you asked on what basis they have done these things? How did they get your bank details?

Make Subject Access Requests to the insurance company, mrtgage broker, and anyone else involved.

      Thanks for your reply.

      its messy.
A mortgage broker provides some info to insurance company to get a quote.

the insurance company write to me saying ive consented to them accessing my medical records. I was never asked let alone consented to

      some months pass.
I get email from insurance company asking me to set up the approved insurance online. I try to log in can’t. I ring them and they tell me it’s live. Money leaving my bank tomorrow. £150.00

i ask them how. They say it’s the brokers faulty.

my concern is a mortgage broker is not a life insurance expert. The insurance company don’t provide any terms and conditions. The insurance company won’t say how I consented to my go records.
I’d have expected to see t&cs prior to the policy starting and know about it. The broker does not have the T&Cs.
so these ins companies sign people up without people actually understanding the policies conditions. The broker lied to get commission. He certainly mislead I’d consented and he should have asked me if I wanted to go ahead.

ill do a subject access request

It's the insurance company you need to focus on right now, leave the broker's role to one side for the moment. You need to make clear that you have not authorised the insurance company to issue a policy to you so that they do not go ahead and debit you £150. You can come back to the question of how they supposedly got access to your private data later.

Just tell them in writing quickly that you have NOT accepted their quotation and you do not wish to take out a policy with them and that they do not have any authority to debit your bank account.
