  • Advice regarding extreme situation

Not sure if this is the best thread for this; if it isn't, please re-direct me.

Okay so this story might sound like a fever dream to some people, but if anyone is willing to take it seriously I could use some advice. The condensed version is as follows: Several years ago I was drugged and severely abused. Following this incident I experienced a profound dissociative fugue. Upon recovering from this, I became suspicious of the people I was living with, and eventually began to question their interpretation of what occurred. I agreed to go to the hospital with them and was diagnosed with schizophrenia and briefly committed before being released as an involuntary patient on extended leave. My treatment continued for ~4 years (despite no presentation of psychotic symptoms apart from transient suspicion at the cause of the fugue state, and during which I remained fully functional as an adult, studying and/or working full time) until one psychiatrist finally discharged me completely after tapering me off the medication on his own initiative.
More recently it has come to my attention that footage of this abuse has been leaked online in some manner, and that the actual motive for the assault was to monetize it by selling it on unlisted websites. I do not currently have possession of this footage, but am looking into methods to search for it (and am pretty sure it does in fact exist). It is also extremely likely that this ordeal involved substantial cooperation with local law enforcement and doctors (at least initially), though to what extent I'm not entirely sure. Since being discharged and discontinuing the medication I have experienced no decline in functioning or psychotic symptoms.
So there's the whole story. Sounds like something out of a mystery novel but it is what it is. My legal questions are:
    1. How can I take legal action in a civil suit against those who committed the assault initially or disseminated it (assuming I recover the footage)?
    2. How can I take legal action against the misdiagnosis? I have already looked into malpractice suits but unfortunately the direct effects of the treatment were not damaging enough for such an avenue to be financially viable. I don't know if human rights laws apply in some manner, given the rest of the details.
I can answer any other questions regarding my experience if necessary.

The police should be investigating this is my first thought. Have they been informed/are involved.
Criminal proceedings would bolster any subsequent civil action to seek damages.
"Although scalar fields are Lorentz scalars, they may transform nontrivially under other symmetries, such as flavour or isospin. For example, the pion is invariant under the restricted Lorentz group, but is an isospin triplet (meaning it transforms like a three component vector under the SU(2) isospin symmetry). Furthermore, it picks up a negative phase under parity inversion, so it transforms nontrivially under the full Lorentz group; such particles are called pseudoscalar rather than scalar. Most mesons are pseudoscalar particles." (finally explained to a captivated Celestine by Professor Brian Cox on Wednesday 27th June 2012 )

Yeah well the sad part about that is that they probably were involved initially, as perpetrators of the abuse (at least local police). After I was told about this footage by a few acquaintances who I'd reached out to I passed their names along to the police after they backed out and obfuscated when I pressed them to provide the actual evidence. The interaction with that officer was not encouraging, with them seeming totally dismissive of the situation (and in any case they can't issue a warrant to demand information from anybody just based on reports of a face to face conversation).

Have you reported it to the hospital trust concerned?

Oh shoot I guess I should have stated this initially - I'm actually a Canadian citizen, this all took place in BC. Is this forum restricted to offering advice for UK issues only? I can see that's where it's based but wasn't sure if you considered issues in other commonwealth countries.

But yes I already worked through the formal channels - initially while I was on extended leave I requested several "review panel" hearings (simply a request to contradict the psychiatrist's certification), to no avail, and then a formal complaint through the college of physicians which was also rejected.

Unfortunately we can only offer help with issues in the UK - I doubt we have anyone on the board with experience of legal issues in Canada. We can only wish you well and hope you find a similar forum for advice in your country.

Oh darn okay. Well hopefully the people on the Canadian forums won't be "in on it" (Just kidding).

This is kind of a long shot, but do you know of any international organizations that actually have any power or something? I'm not sure I can rely on the legal system here since in my case since there appears to be pretty extensive corruption.
