  • Personal injury trust - spend

We set up a personal injury trust with Barclays, however we are having problem using the money.

We were told not to transfer the money directly into the current account, and we are unable to spend, say supermarket, directly from the trust account, so how exactly can one spend the fund in the trust?

    Would really appreciate some insight.

    Thanks,

    M

What did Barclays tell you when you asked them?

(Is this fund for a minor or what? I suspect you can't just use it for everyday expenditure like groceries at a supermarket. If for a minor it's probably meant to be held on trust until they reach 18)

      It's for an adult.

we were told we could only transfer the fund to a current account, but as I said in the previous post, we were told not to, so we are kind of stuck atm

I'm sorry but have you asked them why they have given you apparently contradictory advice? (ie "You can only transfer the money into a current account" -v- "You can't transfer the money into a current account")

Have you explained clearly to them what you are trying to do and why? (eg I presume you are trying to spend the money directly for the benefit of the adult who is the beneficiary of the account. If you aren't doing that they are probably correct not to let you spend it... )

What level of seniority at Barclays are you asking for an explanation?

[Edit: I presume the adult who is the benficiary of the account does not have capacity to act for themself?]
