Re: Stuck with faulty used vehicle

Write to the finance people and remind them that they are responsible for supplying a faulty vehicle and an 8 week delay is unsatisfactory and unnecessary.
The supplier was given 14 days in which to make a decision, and as the creditor is just as liable the time limit applies to them equally.

PS if you think the fault is dangerous I trust you are not actually driving the car.
    It probably won't be dangerous.
You won't lose the ability to steer the vehicle, tho' it will become heavy.
If you lose all fluid you may burn the pump out.

Thanks Des, I will write as suggested to the finance company, what do you think I should do about the dealer who hasn't responded at all? I have to use the car daily, but am topping the steering fluid up regularly to make sure it doesn't run out :tinysmile_grin_t:

I would ignore the dealer at the mo', but tell the finance company you are about to initiate court proceedings and they have 5 working days in which to come to a decision.

          .
Thanks Des, is there anything that I can refer to in the letter to point out to the finance company that they also have some responsibility for supplying the faulty vehicle?

Re: Stuck with faulty used vehicle

update: to cut a verrrrry long story short, I've been corresponding with the finance company (after being totally ignored by the dealership), and what has been agreed is that they have negotiated with the dealer to supply the parts for the repair and the finance company will pay for the labour. I was happy with this, but it has now been 4-5 weeks and no parts have turned up, even though I am repeatedly told that they have been sent by courier, so last week I got fed up and complained to the head office of the finance company (I had been dealing with a regional office previously).

In response to my complaint the finance company have now instructed me to get the repair carried out by my local garage, and they have said that they will pay the bill. The have also asked me to let them know any out of pocket expenses and an amount of compensation that I would be happy to receive.

I am not 100% sure who is doing all the messing around and telling the lies here, the dealership or the finance company themselves, so I was thinking that I will ask the garage if they will carry out the repair and bill the finance company direct (as I don't want to end up stuck with the bill after all this), and I was also considering asking for the payments that I have made to date while the vehicle has been unfit for purpose, to be refunded as compensation.

What do you think, does this sound reasonable?

Sounds reasonable to me, if you have that in writing about the repair, take a copy of that to the garage as proof but they may be reluctant to do so if it's a local one.

See what they say, guess you still have the option of going to the ombudsman if you are not satisfied with it or last resort will be court if you are willing to go down that route
