  • Car on HP has broke again!

    Hi,

I purchased a C4 Picasso on HP through Moneybarn! 6months 22 days and 3000 miles the turbo fails! After months of back and fourth Moneybarn would not do anything to fix the car as it was 22 days out of warranty! So I paid for the repairs myself totalling £1500! Now 2000 miles later the turbo has gone again! Apparently it is a very common problem with these cars and from what I've read the turbo will just keep failing, most people have had to have a new engine fitted to resolve this!

I have a small family and cannot afford these repairs, still paying off the first turbo repairs!

The agreement is for 4 years, in November I would be halfway through my agreement. Out of the 2 years I have owned this car it has been on the road 8-9 months! And I have covered a whopping 5000miles!

I no longer want this car! It has bought nothing but hassle! To the point my partner was in tears!

Does anybody know where I stand legally with this? What options are available to me?

Every bit of help is very much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Lee

      Thanks for the reply.

I shall be getting in contact with the finance company and with CAB in due course. Was hoping to arm myself with as much info as possible first.

I was in contact with CAB the first time the turbo failed! They told me to push stick with the complaint because I was in the right! So we did, few months down the line ombudsman then informed us there was nothing we could do! Few months wasted in my eyes!

So any info would be great.

Sparkie, I am sure that LeeHumphries would be happy to listen to what you have to say (and so would I for that matter) :tinysmile_grin_t:

I'm sorry that you feel as though others on here are belittling your knowledge/advice, but that is not what I would ever want people to think from their first post on the forum :tinysmile_hmm_t2:.

I would advise the OP myself - however I will honestly say I know nothing about this situation that could be used to help (:sorry: @LeeHumphries ). So @Sparkie1723 - would you please reconsider your stance on advising, so the OP at least has something to build from??

Re: Car on HP has broke again!

Hi Lee, firstly who was the original warranty policy with?

How long ago did you have the 2nd turbo fitted and who by? Is it still covered under guarantee?

The reason for turbo failure on these is due to incorrect oil change procedures or poor oil quality.

There was a bulletin issued by Cirtoen to all dealers highlighting this and I would be happy to give the details of that to you if you want.

Re: Car on HP has broke again!

tf you no longer want the vehicle the re is the option to voluntarily terminate the agreement and hand it back, if you have paid half the total agreement price and the car has been reasonably cared for there would be no further sums to pay.

There is a a sticky on here which gives mote details, By Mr Peterbard.

Re: Car on HP has broke again!

The warranty was with the dealer the car was purchased from. Neither warranty company or finance company would pay to have it fixed as it was 22 days over!

The mechanic who fixed the car is a trusted friend of the family. He showed me the warning note that comes with this particular turbo, it states everything that needs to be done when replacing the turbo, even at the end of this note it states even if all the work is carried out there is no gaurantee that the turbo won't fail again!

His opinion was that the wrong oil was used and this is why the turbo failed in the first place! The wrong oil was nothing to do with me, never done enough miles to require a top-up or oil change! He did everything he could to remove all sludge from engine pipes and the likes! He really went the extra mile for us. So this has me thinking that even if we had it done again we will just have the same issue! I'm pretty sure because of the work he carried out the parts are under warranty, but I'm guessing I will have to pay for labour! Not 100% sure tho. Will be checking soon.

Now I was looking at VT but my guess is they will charge me for this broken turbo! What I'm hoping for is that they take the car back, and I will not have to pay another penny towards it!

                  thanks for the replys

Hmm yes it is a shame that you cannot just get it to run and argue the toss when it has gone back.

If it costs nothing to fix then I will do this then send it back. But there is no way I will be paying for repairs again!

Have a look at the VT thread, it is not an easy process and you have to stick to your guns, but lots of people have done it and the feature is there to protect people like you who have bought vehicles which frankly were not worth the money.
