Hi everybody, .. I'm a middle aged man going through a mid life crisis,
So I thought I would learn to ride a motorbike. On one of the lessons I
came off and damaged the bike (and my knee but that will heal with my pride)
Now the riding school instructor wants me to cough up nearly £3,000 for repairs
Can you please direct me to the correct forum place where I can get some much
needed help and advice. Thank you all in advance for any tips you can provide.

Hello Dolahsing - that sounds really rotten, so sorry. It also sounds pretty off to me, although I'm no expert. Driving schools, riding schools, in fact any establishment that is giving professional instruction in high risk activities would normally have a very comprehensive insurance policy. It is my understanding that they are legally required to fully insure for such eventualities but no doubt someone who knows more about this will be along soon

Your motorbike school should have full insurance to cover such incidences, even if you started doing Evil Kinieval (sp?) impressions, they should be covered.

Sooo, not sure what your instructor is rambling on about tbh. Is he suing you or just 'mouthing off'?

But how valuable would be a pair of pre-used leather kecks?

Hi all; first off ... Thanks for your support and if you really want to buy my leather kecks i'll start the bidding at £3000 P.S. very Manly - never been washed
secondly, I was happy to survive the incident virtually intact so I wasn't planning to sue the instructor; I'd have to say I panicked due to inexperience but ay ho
Is it possible they could get away with just third party ? to save on running costs i'm not sure.

The school has to have full cover insurance for which covers such events, unless as there may be no claims involved here? makes you wonder, well I would challenge the school to provide evidence of no insurance cover? if no cover they must be breaking certain areas of rules/regulations? = just my thoughts. also get copy of the so called repairs estimates? you could also ask for insurers name and contact them yourself, and start claim process if they are refusing to start a claims process? makes you wonder what is going on here on their part?

Quite apart from it being commercially stupid not to have insurance cover for any motorcycles that a learner might prang, one would hope that there would be some insurance cover for the learner!
